Groundhog day this morning. What do they say about insanity, doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result. Something like that anyway.
Last week I did my two solid Kickr sessions on consecutive days. At the time I knew it wasn't the best training practice but I had backed myself into a corner by rearranging sessions. Doing the two session next to each other hurt, but I survived. Then I get to this week, and what do I do, exactly the same thing again! In fact this time it was even worse since the two Kickr sessions were separated by about 12 hours. Once again the reasoning behind the change was righteous. Not riding in the first part of the week so that I could be away from town with the family. However, that meant cramming some bike sessions into the second half of the week, ie today and yesterday.
As a result, the bike session this morning hurt. Not agony hurt, just that persistent dull ache sort of hurt that comes with training hard on weary limbs. The session all went fine, the power levels were all on target etc, but it just wasn't quite as easy as the session last night. Still, a solid back up session can't be all bad right. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and all that. Well at least that is what I am going to tell myself.
Running tonight. This time last week I had plans around some 'mixed surface' running, which I said meant I was going to go running on my local oval. However, when I got there I found there was a bunch of hooligans all running around is brightly coloured tops chasing some sort of weirdly ovular ball that bounced funny. This infestation was apparently caused by it now approaching winter. With the influx there wasn't much room left for little old me to run around and so I ended up just running along the river like I usually do. Tonight's run is a bunch of 500m intervals, which is an almost perfect session for doing on an oval and that is what I would dearly like to do. However, the final execution of the session will depend a bit on just how many larrikins are already on the oval doing who knows what to innocent egg shaped balls. Hopefully they have the week off due to school holidays or something similar, however, I suspect not. Oh well, I may have to figure out an alternative. Either way though, running tonight. The aforementioned tired legs should make it an absolute riot.
After running. Sleep. Many sleeps.
