Brighter Sides

So I got some news yesterday which was a little disappointing and just a little frustrating.

Yesterday I headed down to see physio Marc See. The visit was really just a check. My elbow was still sore from my crash on Sunday so I thought I would head down and get the all clear from Marc. As a precaution Marc sent me to go and get an X-ray, just to rule out fracture.

Unfortunately the X-ray didn't not rule out fracture, but rather it confirmed it.
See it? Nope me neither

The fracture is on the radius head (apparently). I am stuffed if I can see it on the X-ray, but that is apparently not unusual, the people who know what they are talking about assure me it is there.

Sooo.... I hear you say, what exactly is the brighter side of this, given it is your second serious injury in 5 months?

Well firstly, apparently this sort of injury only causes around 4 weeks down time. It is yet to be determined what that is going to mean for Rotto, but that is a question for another day. Compared to 3 months for my shoulder ,4 weeks is delightfully short.

Despite a bone in my arm being a little bit broken I have a surprisingly large amount of functionality. I can't swim at the moment, but I can ride on the trainer and I can run fine (I did this morning). The ability to train properly in 2 out of 3 legs is massive.

I have always sort of felt that I am not a proper cyclist because I haven't had enough serious injuries. I can now tick that box. No need for any more injuries.

Another upside is that if you read the biography of any athlete they usually have a period in their career where they injured for a long time. Major adversity that was overcome. Tick that box. I now have that to talk about if ever I wanted to write a book about myself. Win.

So, perhaps not puppies and sunshine all around, but the world is not ending. There is always a brighter side.
