Feeling much brighter today. Amazing what a bit of sleep gains you.
Great run this morning. It is funny, some morning's when you are out running it can seem that every group of people is determined to take up the entire path, walking three abreast perhaps with a dog on a long lead. It can feel like you spend the entire time dodging around one person and then making sure you don't trip over the next. Other mornings you have surreal moments where it feels like you are the only person in the world.
This morning was one of the later.
The world was empty, the running felt easy, I didn't get rained on. The world was a good place to be.
Other than an empty world I am not sure what made the run so good. Off the back of yesterday I certainly wasn't expecting to feel good this morning. Pacing might have had something to do with it. Today's run was similar to Wednesday's, being made up of a series of 2km moderate pace efforts, however, today's version had more efforts. The increased number of efforts actually made the run one of the longer ones I have done for a while. On Wednesday I pushed the pace a little, but with the distance today I thought I would attack today's session a bit more conservatively. I also spent more of the run being attentive to pace, and keeping it under control. In fact I think I spent a lot of the run slotted into a good maintainable pace, which is sort of the point of the session. I suspect all that helped me feel fresher towards the back part of the run, which in turn made the entire run feel better. Good reminder how important pacing can be in both training and racing.
Some biking coming up to top off this morning's running. The plan is to get in a bit of a recovery spin tonight, but that is only really an entree for tomorrow morning's long bike session. As I mentioned yesterday I am confined to the Kickr at the moment, so tomorrow is looking like being a long morning. I have some epic length movies that I have been saving up, so one of them may be on the agenda. A while ago a 3+ hour or so session on the trainer would have turned my blood cold, but I have spent so much time on the Kickr recently that I am more at peace with the idea now. Still not my idea of a lovely morning out, but it doesn't seem quite so insurmountable either.
Besides looking at the weather forecast, I suspect that by being on the trainer I might be getting the better end of the deal.
