An absolutely gorgeous day today. Days like today are what I like so much about Autumn. Pretty much a faultless day. Almost no wind, no rain, warm temperatures. Perfect.
Great day to be on the trainer.
Yes, I have to admit that despite the glorious weather I spent the morning inside on the trainer. The program said it and so that is what I was doing. I was very tempted to not I must admit, watching wave after wave of cyclist making the most of the Easter Monday day off to go and spin around the river in the wonderful weather had me itching to join them. But in the end I stuck with what I was told and jumped on the Kickr. I have had enough experiences of not following the coaches instructions and then having to come back and do it the way I was told anyway to know it is normally just easier to do what I was told the first time. That is the philosophy I followed this morning.
Once I came to terms with being on the Kickr the session was another good one. Intervals again, this time slightly longer than I have been doing. The bike continues to feel good and things like average power and average heart rate are beginning to look a bit more normal. Still another 10W or so until I will consider myself back on par. Of course another 20W would be better, but one step at a time.
On the family front there were grand plans to head to the zoo and enjoy this last day of the holidays to good effect. However, in the end the reality of having two little kids worn out by several days of excitement hit home and we ended up having a relaxing day. The excitement high point came in the form of a completed worm farm, which probably gives you a good idea of the sort of day we had. Just what the doctor ordered though with the kids picking up quite a bit towards the end of the day. A pick up that wasn't entirely chocolate related.
The return to training continues tomorrow with the next of my physio instructed run sessions. This is the second last of these sessions and so far everything has been going well. My knee/shin is feeling very good post this morning's trainer session (which doesn't always happen). Pretty much pain free this afternoon which is great. Hopefully the improvements continue this week, with the aim to be trying a normal jog latter in the week.
The return continues.
