Well I was right, today turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day.Warm, light winds, just pretty much perfect. After my TT from yesterday I actually had permission from Coach Daryl to have this morning off, but the weather was so wonderful that I couldn't resist getting out on the bike. I kept the ride to a low intensity spin, rather than the work that would have been on the program, but it was definitely worth the effort of getting out. I would have been kicking myself if I had let that chance slip by.
I also spent some time down at Claremont pool at the Saturday Swim Smooth session having a bit of fun. That session is usually fun, but can often be a real physical smashfest too. Not so much today. Still a lot of lactic build up going on, but also just a bunch of fun open water exercises. The creativity that goes into sessions like this one is the sort of thing that makes the Swim Smooth session so good.
Other than that I have been making a start on all those little tasks that are part of preparing for a racing trip away. Mostly just getting the bike set up at the moment, but also giving some of the gear that I haven't used for a while the once over. Making sure everything is still in working order. Trying out anything that might be new, that sort of thing. For instance I have new sleeved tri top to use. I have been very keen to get my hands on one, since everything says they are quicker. I have been umming and ahhing about whether to use it up in Bintan since it is a non wetsuit race, making sleeved tri suits just a bit more of a hassle. I gave it a go in my TT yesterday and that was enough to convince me to not take it up to Bintan. Just a little bit too warm I think. Combined with the hassle of having to swim with it rolled down and then pull it back up in T1 (it is very tight). Just not worth it for this one. Next wetsuit legal race I do though I will be in it for sure.
That reminds me I have to swap my stretchy laces over to my current races shoes.
And clean my bike.
And put the race wheels on
And start packing
And....
