Finally, finally back out training this morning. It has been a long time coming and getting back out on the road was everything I was hoping it would be. And cold. Everything I was hoping it would be and cold.
I'm not kidding about the cold, it was around 2 degrees. A true, put on everything you own type of ride. But other than that it was an absolutely perfect morning out, no wind and just perfect blue skies. Exactly the sort of morning you hope for when you are getting back out on the bike for the first time in a while.
Pleasingly the riding felt good too. 2 hours of spinning around and it sort of felt like I had never stopped. The only real indication that my fitness isn't perhaps what it has been was that my heart was a bit higher than it usually would be for the work I was doing. Still it was a great feeling being out, knowing that I was finally taking real steps back towards race fitness. At the moment I know that every session is one step further. Finding the motivation to get out and train has never been easier. Even if it is freezing cold.
More of the same tomorrow morning too, with another spin planned for tomorrow. Unfortunately more of the same temperatures planned too, but as they say there is no such thing has bad conditions, just incorrect clothing. I am hoping that once I am adequately rugged up it ends up being another lovely morning out.
Speaking of exciting mornings, tomorrow the iconic Challenge Roth will be on. This year there is a massive group of about nine from Break Your Limits over in Germany for the race. Other than my ride, I am really looking forward to spending some time keeping track of how they are all going.
Should be a good day.
