Made it through

Hooray it is Wednesday and I survived my swim session this morning. Release the doves and slaughter the fattened kumquats, this calls for a celebration.

No really, I can't over state how much of a relief it is to get through my first Wednesday Swim Smooth session back in the pool. I wouldn't say it was keeping me awake, but it was certainly playing on my mind for the last couple of days. The Wednesday swim can sometimes be such a mental battle to keep yourself in the pool and keep hurting that when you haven't done one for a while it is a bit intimidating.

But this morning I got through it and I have to say it wasn't that bad. In the spirit of easing back in, which has been the theme of the week, I was planning on swimming with a slower group, or getting out early, or perhaps both. In the end though I didn't need to do either. Admittedly the target times our squad was given were a little bit easier than normal due to a few of the quicker swimmers being missing, and that certainly made a difference. However, the session was still a solid one including both an 800m and 1000m effort. Doesn't matter how you slice it, a 5km swim set is a tough morning out.

Given my recent lack of swimming I was very happy to get through the full 5km and make all the times etc. Was a very big boost to the confidence.

Relatively easy day tomorrow in comparison. Well sort of. Spin around the river in the morning and a bit of a run in the evening. However, they are both sessions that are well within my capabilities and so don't have quite the same mental apprehension that this morning's swim had. I say that now of course. Could be famous last words. I will let you know tomorrow.
