Good and bad

I think I will consider today a good day. Today I had one of the first proper training sessions I have had for weeks. Yes it was still a fairly easy swim by regular standards, but it was a proper training session all the same. Finally.

The swim went well. I often do a lot of my non squad swims at my nearest pool in Fremantle, but for this one I thought I would start getting back into normal routine, so I headed down to Claremont, which is where Swim Smooth trains. That was all fine and dandy, except when I jumped in the lane and found coach Paul Newsome in there busting out his own session. Luckily the temptation to try and stick to his toes was removed because he was finishing up as I was starting. Still I did a 200m cobweb clearer with him and it certainly felt good to be back in the water moving with intent. Even if that intent was to simply stick as close to his toes as possible.

Also very nice to be back at the normal pool, seeing the usual people. I recently was feeling like I had fallen off the world a little bit, so good to get back to the usual haunts. Improvements continue.

On the not so good news side, I took the hard decision to pull out of Cebu 70.3 today. This really was a hard call to make. I have been looking forward to this race for a while, it has been on my calender all year, I think I entered it back in January. The Phillipines is a fun place to race, and the organisers Sunrise Events are very welcoming. Very difficult to walk away from. Unfortunately the writing was really on the wall though. Deep down I have suspected that I was going to have to make this call for the last few days. My health has been improving lately, but it is just too little too late. I simply don't have enough time to get back up to race fitness in time for Cebu. Pulling out isn't something I like doing, but I am confident that it is the right choice. Time now to regroup, refocus and aim at a new goal. Luckily for me this time of year is jammed packed full of races, so new goals are easy to find.

On to the administrative side. I will be travelling for work over the next few days. I will probably be online tomorrow and Thursday, but Wednesday is a little less certain. If my posts are a little haphazard that is why. See how it goes.
