Another day of definite improvement today. Yesterday I mentioned that my resting heart rate was returning to normal and today I got more evidence of that. On my ride this morning my average power was 30 watts higher than it was on Thursday (yes 30 watts), but my average heart rate was only two bpm higher. That is a pretty good indication of an improvement in health if ever I have seen one. My average power may have still been 50 watts below what it would usually be for that sort of a session, but I am going for a glass half full sort of approach.
I say ride, but it would be more accurate to say trainer. I mentioned yesterday that the forecast was looking a bit iffy, and unfortunately the forecast rain turned up. In fact we are starting to conclude that when it comes to our house, the forecast rain always turns up. We always seem to get at least some of the rain here. If the forecast says 70% chance of rain, we have started assuming at least 10% more on top of that. It wasn't a lot of rain in the end, really just isolated showers with long periods of dry weather, but it was enough to make the roads wet. I always find that when it comes to riding on the road, wet roads make you almost as wet as rain from the sky. So even though it wasn't raining all that much, when I heard it start in the early morning I resigned myself to the fact that it would be another trainer session.
Oh well, on the upside, being on the trainer made it much easier to compare between today's session and the one from Thursday.
A bit more training tomorrow, probably a session down the pool I think. Hopefully the recovery continues.
