Things took a turn for the up today. I got in some training and it was good.
I woke up this morning just feeling better. Just like I struggled to pinpoint exactly why I was feeling off during the week, this morning I probably couldn't tell you what had changed to make me feel better. All I know is that I was feeling a lot better.
As a result swimming went well. This morning was the dreaded Goldilocks session, one of the hardest sessions we do on a Friday morning:
4 x 100m
200m
4 x 100m
300m
4 x 100m
400m
All done at threshold pace. It is a solid session. If you get close to the target pace on the 400m then you are doing very well. Anyway, we had that and I got through alright. So that was a big tick for me.
Then later today I finally managed to get out for the heart rate controlled run that I spoke about on Tuesday. I actually went and did it at lunch time, which is a nice benefit of having Fridays off. The run was everything I hoped it would be. In the end it was a touch over 18km and I really enjoyed it. Sticking to the target heart rates stopped me going out too hard, which I often do, and suffering in the second half. It also kept my overall intensity down, which was good, because I often push too hard when I run, which is perhaps one of the reasons I don't enjoy running as much, because it hurts a lot. All this meant that I felt good for the entire run. Nice result.
I am choosing to interpret the way that I have pulled up today as evidence that the way I handled this week was correct. Whilst I haven't had a full blown cold, I have no doubt that I wasn't 100% there for a few days. If I am honest I suspect I am still not quite there, but much closer than I was. However, I have so far managed to get through the week with only missing a single training session. That is success in my book. To get through a week of not feeling great with almost no loss of training and feeling almost back to normal by the end of the week. Success.
Nice easy spin tomorrow morning. It isn't a long one and I am currently thinking I might head out and have a nice lap of the river. That should just about cover it.
