A bit more training today and a bit of hope that my body is returning to normal.
After talking to Daryl yesterday I opted to have the afternoon off and start the day today with fresh eyes. With that in mind it was early to bed and then up this morning to assess the situation.
Whilst I still wasn't feeling quite right this morning I wasn't feeling quite wrong either. The heart rate and everything was in the right range and so I made the call to jump on the trainer.
The session for this morning was pretty much exactly the same as the one I did on Tuesday. This morning though I deliberately got up later and started the session a bit later. Sometimes no matter how much sleep you get, getting up early still leaves you feeling tired. I found that on Tuesday, so this morning I just decided that I would get to work a little bit later and get up at a more normal time (4:30 is normal apparently).
The session went well. In the end it was almost a carbon copy of the session I did on Tuesday. Power was almost identical, average heart rate was similar. Like for like. On feel though I would have to say that the session today felt a bit easier. Perhaps is it just because I knew what I was in for and so took the early recovery periods a bit easier (I think I pushed them too hard on Tuesday), resulting in a more even pacing today. Whatever the reason though I got through reasonably unscathed, which I consider to be an achievement when you are talking about sitting on the trainer for two hours.
Now I am just monitoring how I am feeling. I have had this before, where I don't quite feel like I have degenerated into full blown man-flu, but I don't quite feel 100% either. If I had to define it I would say that at the moment I feel like I have a very light head cold. A bit fuzzy in the head, scratchy behind the eyes but with no real symptoms. Surprisingly I have felt okay when I have trained, but the session have taken more out of me than they usually would, in terms of tiredness etc. On the other hand it could just mean I need another coffee.
In other interesting news, my entry to Japan 70.3 in June is shaping up nicely now with the last few pieces falling into place. Looks like it should be all systems go, although I should probably get on and book some flights.
No matter how I am feeling physically, I am now sitting about 4 hours away from a four day weekend. Woo hoo. Can't help but feel at least a little bit better with that around the corner.
Now I should probably just double check on that lack of coffee theory.
