I am not going to lie, I am a total wussbag when it comes to heat. I tend to race okay in it, but I am not a huge fan of living in it. Because of this Summer is not my favourite time of year in Perth. There are lots of things to recommend Summer here (stacks of sunlight being one), but for me, a lot of those good things are outweighed by the strings of 40ish degree days we get, plus the horrible winds.
As a result of all this I am not particularly thrilled about the weather we are currently having. On last check the temperature had just officially cracked over 40 degrees and as icing on the cake tomorrow is supposed to be around 36. Ewww. At least yesterday didn't live up to expectations with the maximum not getting up to the forecast 37 degrees.
At least I am not trying to train in it.
Great sleep last night. A true sleep in, with my son staying in bed until a reasonable hour and so my body waking up when it wanted to, rather than when it had to. If I am honest I am still feeling tired, but I suspect that has more to do with the solid day of training I did yesterday than anything. Luckily this is taper week.
Training for tomorrow is a bit of a spin on the bike, which I will doing nice and early to avoid the heat of the day. I am deciding on whether to chuck the race wheels on the bike to give them a pre-race spin and at the moment I am thinking that I will. The forecast winds for the morning are on the light side, plus even if it is windy, the current race forecast is for a blowy, so a bit of time in the wind wouldn't be the end of the world.
Speaking of race forecasts, the current long range forecast for Albany is for a maximum of 20 degrees, 30% chance of a shower and strong (30km/h) winds on Saturday. I tend to not look at long range forecasts since they can change so much, but given the heat we have been having in Perth I thought I would take a peek. If the forecast ends up being correct it sounds like it will make for an interesting day. Wind in Albany is no real surprise, it really is part of this race. The forecast winds will make for a strong headwind on the way home on the bike, which could make it a key part of the race.
At least it shouldn't be hot.
