So here we are in 2015. Looking backwards, I view 2014 with a bit of mixed emotion. Some really good stuff happened in 2014, but when I think of the year, my main feeling is one of frustration. Feeling frustrated with the year is probably treating it a little harshly, but you know how it is, sometimes it only takes a couple of bad experiences to tarnish your view of something.
All up 2014 feels like a year that was marred with injury. I got a couple of persistent injuries in 2014, some of which impacted races and others which impacted training, which then impacted races. Fair or otherwise, that is what comes to mind when I think of 2014.
But if I look a bit harder, I realise that 2014 really was better than that. In 2014 I had some great races, including a massive PB at Mandurah 70.3. I made huge gains on the bike, finally getting it close to the point where I have always wanted it to be. Big gains in swimming too.
I think the reality of 2014 is that is has been a year of development. Some good achievements in racing, but probably the biggest achievement was a quiet one, just a general improvement in how I train and how I race. A step upwards in most areas.
I think when you look at it from that perspective, when I realise that I am starting 2015 faster than I started 2014, then it is hard to call the year anything but a good one.
I sure am looking forward to 2015 though.
