Well I managed to get my run from yesterday done this morning, so I am now officially back on par. The run can either be viewed as successful or not, depending on which perspective you choose. Personally I like the former over the latter.
The run consisted of two half hour efforts, plus a warm up, warm down etc. This is the furthest I have run continuously for weeks (possibly even months) and it wasn't messing around either, it was a proper run session, have no doubt.
The reason that the run could be viewed as a failure is that I had a prescribed pace to hold for the two half hours and I wasn't able to do it. I got close on the first one, and nowhere near it on the second. Really I died pretty hard in that second one. A bit depressing from that perspective.
But, alternatively you can flip that around. This is the longest I have run continously for weeks (possibly even months) and I got through it. My body has pulled up okay and I got through the session. Yes the times weren't as quick as I would have liked, but I went out and ran 20km, which is something I haven't done (outside of a race) in a long time.
You might say, "But Albany is soon, you need to be able to run quicker than that in two weeks time". My answer to that is I have only been back at proper training for two weeks and I just did a 20km run. It is coming.
The run itself was interesting and quite specific. I did it going back and forth along a 1.8km stretch of path behind South Beach in South Fremantle. "That is very specific" I hear you say, "ummm why there?" Good question, let me explain. If you have read any of my race reports from Albany, you would have read that the run leg there is a bit tricky. For most of it you are on a path that runs parallel to Middleton beach, through the dunes. You spend the whole time on that path either running up or running down small hills. Guess what a certain stretch of path in South Beach is like? I run this bit of path semi-regularly and have thought to myself on numerous occasions in the past, "This is just like Albany". That is why I was there.
The run may not have been exactly what I was after. But I am counting it as a win.
Riding and more running tomorrow. The forecast for Perth tomorrow is for it be hotter than Venus , (well okay around 39 degrees) so I will see what happens with training in the afternoon. I may move that run to Wednesday, which is forecast to be much cooler. We shall see. Should be plenty of head winds for the bike in the morning, so that should be fun.
The baby steps continue...
