Wow, it has been a fairly surreal 24 hours. This time yesterday I was arriving at Phuket International Airport after having dinner beside the pool watching the sun set over the beach. Since then I have spent several hours watching Russian tourists queue for a flight, 6 hours trying to sleep while contorting my spine into a ball and about 6 hours at work. All up it has been a fun filled day.
The last 24 hours could have been a lot worse though. As entertaining as trying to sleep on a plane is, at least I was able to sleep. We could have had two children scream for 6 hours instead, which probably would have been less fun. As it was they slept solidly for the entire flight, giving us the opportunity to get some rest.
Unfortunately once back in Perth I really had to go to work. Tell you what, trying to function on a bit less than 6 hours of very poor quality sleep was probably the hardest part of the day. Still, by some miracle I managed to get through (not really a miracle, just caffeine) and so I am now able to get some proper rest. Bed is going to feel so good tonight.
Now that I am back in Perth I am keen to get on with life again. After this week I have 5 weeks to Albany and I am ready to get on with it. From a triathlon point of view this week in Phuket didn't exactly deliver what I was after. I didn't race and so from that point of view I guess the trip could be considered a waste. I have already said that I don't really feel that way, since I got a nice week holiday with the family instead. But another unexpected benefit I got from the week away is that I am feeling a bit rejuvenated mentally. It is always hard to keep yourself motivated throughout the seasion when it comes to training, but this week away has put some fire back in the belly.
5 weeks is a lot of time training wise and I plan to use that time to build on what I took into Mandurah.
Sleep first though.
