Sweaty

I now have a couple more days of training in Darwin under my belt. It has been fun to be back up here, although it makes me realise that I don't miss being up here training in the heat.

I was walk/running yesterday morning and this morning I was back in the pool. Both were sessions that hit home the toughness of the climate here. Getting hot during running up here was probably fairly predictable even though the session itself was low intensity. Doesn't make it any more pleasant though. Heading out onto the run, the body was reluctant to get going with the legs still carrying a fair bit of soreness from the weekend. I knew I needed to get out and get moving to help the soreness pass though, so I got myself out the door. Once I got going I was surprised that I felt okay. Not brilliant but definitely okay.

My swim on Tuesday lulled me into a false sense of security with swimming. There was a bit of rain on Monday night, so once I was in the pool on Tuesday morning the water temperature wasn't too bad. Not this morning though. Hot as. Water temperature was around 29 degrees I think and I was feeling it by the end. Still the swim went okay. Like the run I am still feeling the after effects of the race, but I am definitely getting back to normal.

Tonight I am back on the bike for my last session of the trip. Hopefully the ride is as pleasant this time as it was on Tuesday. With any luck it won't be belting with rain. If it is belting with rain I suspect the ride may be a lot less likely to occur. It is still recovery week after all.

During part of my ride on Tuesday night I was riding along Nightcliff beach and it occurred to me that I was on the same road as where I did my first triathlon, a training tri with the squad. I won't lie it got me a little misty eyed. Riding through there made me realise just how far things have come in the last three years or so. It has been a fun journey so far. I am certainly looking forward to the next bit.

Tomorrow I head back to Perth. Once I get home things return to normal a little bit and Phuket prep kicks off properly.
