Race Day

So today was race day. The first time I have really sat on the sideline and watched a race pass me by. So any regrets, second thoughts?

Nope, not a one.

It is funny because part of me keeps trying to feel guilty. What a waste of a trip, dragged everybody up here, should have raced, took the soft option etc. But no matter how persistent that voice on my shoulder is, I don't really feel bad about this one. That is just reinforced more by having watched the race today. It was a bloodbath. I have no regrets about not being out there in it. In fact the only persistent thought I have is, I can't wait to get back to Perth, getting training properly again and get to Albany.

I woke up this morning and headed down to watch the start and I have to say I felt pretty average. If I woke up feeling like that at home I wouldn't have trained. For me that was justification enough that I had made the right call about racing. I still feel average now, but I have had a long hot day in the sun, so there are probably several factors at play there.

In terms of the race, there were a few amazing performances. Some real tough man suffer through efforts and really everybody who finished did an amazing job, but amongst them there were some real stand outs. The biggest of those has to be Stef Puszka who achieved an amazing 4th place in the women today. A good balanced race, but really it came down to a phenomenal run.

Amazing to watch.
