"Running"

Today was my first 'run' session back since starting up with proper training again. I use the term run in the loosest possible sense since it was mostly made up of walking. But I am okay with that, slowly, slowly.

The session went alright. Some soreness during some of the running, but I have pulled up okay this afternoon. To be honest I am still deciding what to make of it. I think it is okay, during some of the running it felt really good, other bits I had some twinges. I think I am happy to note it down as on track for now.

The run session did make me question the calibration of the treadmills I have been on for the last couple of weeks though. When I started running this morning I had a world of trouble bringing the pace under control. I am sure I was working no harder than I had been doing on the treadmills, but I was moving a lot quicker. I guess that is one problem with a treadmill, you kind of have to take it's word that it is accurate.

Going back to injury recovery for a minute, I had a physio appointment today. The physio seems happy to consider it on track for now as well. Things have certainly improved over where they were a couple of weeks ago and some residual soreness is apparently not unusual with this sort of injury. As long as it stays as residual soreness then I will be happy. If I can get away without this flaring back up again then I will count that as a win.

Tomorrow morning it is time for the session of the week that I have probably been dreading the most. My first proper swim session. Dun dun duuuun....

To be honest I am not expecting miracles. I have swum a little in the last couple of weeks, which gives me a bit of confidence that I haven't forgotten how. But I am a realist, going from cold turkey into a 5km session is not going to be pleasant. If I make it over 3km this week then I will consider that as success. I will see how it goes, but I am not going to beat myself over the head if it ends in tears.

Tomorrow afternoon it is back on the bike, which due to limitations of the day will be on the trainer. I am actually pretty keen to get out on the road, since it feels like it has been ages, but that will have to wait until Thursday afternoon. No big deal. The trainer sessions are great, you just don't want them every day.

So training is slowly returning to normal. By next week things should be looking a bit more typical, hopefully my body continues to do the same.

Pretty tired now though. Time for a stretch and then bed.
