I often find it hard tracking races from afar, there is usually a point somewhere during the race where I find myself wishing I was there. Today the Cairns Ironman and Half Ironman were on and that did not happen.
From the photos I have seen and the times that were being done, today looked like it was a tough day out. By all accounts it rained. All day. Looks like there was a quite bit of wind out on the course as well. It just didn't look like a lot of fun.
Big congratulations to all those from Daryl's squad and from Break Your Limits who took it on and conquered though. Particularly those out in the Ironman. That is a long, tough day to be out in those sorts of conditions.
Congratulations.
I am glad I was not there.
Quiet day of training for me today. The only session I had was a ride/run this morning. For something different I did the ride leg of the brick on the trainer. It just meant I could keep the session nice and controlled as well as transition a bit quicker, since I didn't have to stuff around putting the bike away. It worked quite well. The legs were very flat jumping on the bike, well and truly feeling the hills from Saturday, but once I got going they settled down.
During the time on the trainer I discovered a good reason to make sure the phone stays sweat free when it is controlling the Kickr. I had some sweat on the screen and it must have been interfering with the conductivity of the touchscreen, since it wasn't registering some of my touches correctly. I thought it would be okay, but then on one interval I went to increase the resistance of the Kickr and couldn't stop it. By the time I got the phone to react the resistance of the Kickr had spun up to over 600W. Needless to say it felt like I had ridden into a wall. Oh well lesson learned.
The run off the bike was a short 5km and it went well. Given how my running has been feeling I was keen for a quick run and this one turned out to be just that, with a new 5km PB. Still not lightening quick, but for me it was pretty good.
Out on the bike again in the morning. Although, with the current forecast I suspect I will be on the trainer again, which is perfectly okay with me. Cold, dark and rainy or none of those things. Hmmm, tough choice.
