A rare thing happened this morning, I had a sleep in.
Monday morning typically is my weekly morning off. But usually it works out simpler for me to ride on Monday morning and then have the afternoon off. So I rarely actually have the sleep in. However, today the stars have aligned to mean that I can ride this afternoon, leaving this morning beautifully free for sleeping. Normally it is not unusual for me to be waking up at 4:30am for weeks at a time, so when sleepins do come along, they are very precious.
Good thing to because this morning it was absolutely freezing.
It is one of the frustrating traits of Winter that it can either be warm(ish) and raining or clear and freezing. When we get clear and warm we call it Summer. Last week we had a lot of the warmer but wet weather. This week it looks like we are heading down the clear but freezing route. Of the two, I much prefer the clear but freezing option. It may be cold, but at least you can wear more clothes. Raining is just miserable. Still doesn't make it much easier to get out the door unfortunately.
A tiny part of me is a little disappointed though because, other than the cold, it would have been a magical morning for riding, almost no wind. I will be on the bike this afternoon and I am just hoping the beautiful conditions hang around until then. I am pretty sure it will be dry no matter what happens, but I am itching to get out in the calm as well. It is always hard to be sitting here in the office looking out the window and seeing perfect cycling weather. It will bug me if I miss them altogether by the time I am riding this afternoon.
Today is the start of a couple of solid weeks leading into the Townsville Olympic distance. Training last week was a good solid effort, culminating with a heavy weekend, and the next two weeks are more of the same. Whilst training last week went well, there were a couple of points that could have been better, so I am hoping to improve on them this week and next week. Not least of which is trying to improve the pain I have been getting in the hip flexor. Townsville is more of a training race than a priority, however, I am keen to have a good lead in and give myself the best opportunity for a good race.
