I have put a good couple of sessions under my belt since my update yesterday. Last night I headed out for a run that I wasn't really in the mood for and to my surprise had a really great session. That put me on a bit of a high and so this morning I experienced that rare beast, a Wednesday morning swim session which I felt good about and didn't have to drag myself out of bed.
I am not sure what has changed with my running, but whatever it is, I like it. The last couple of weeks I have had some absolutely great runs. The best thing about these sessions is that I haven't been going out and chasing times, in fact on the whole I haven't even really been checking the GPS. I have just been running at the intensity that I feel I should and each time I have been very surprised by the result. In my experience, the way I feel in any one of the various triathlon disciplines ebbs and flows, so in a few weeks running may no longer feel so good. I am hoping that doesn't happen, but even if it does, I intend on enjoying what I have for now. Yesterday's run was also an example of why it is sometimes a good idea to force yourself out the door for a session you really aren't up for.
As I mentioned above, the run last night put me on a real high, and so this morning it wasn't that hard to get myself out of bed and down to the pool. My enthusiasm lasted right up until I jumped in the water... However, it came back again about 3000m later, which was very welcome. I would almost go so far as to say I enjoyed the session this morning. It was tough as usual, but sustainable and I was happy with how my body coped with it.
Now as my reward for those sessions I have the afternoon off and really looking forward to it. For one reason or another this afternoon feels like the first time in ages that I am going to have the opportunity to truly relax, which will be great. I won't be relaxing to long, with another run in the morning. But for now I am planning on making hay while the sun is shining.
