It had to be done

This morning was a bit of a milestone in terms of post race training. This morning was my first Wednesday morning swim session since Busselton 70.3.

Insert appropriate Dun, Dun, Duuunnn..... sound effect here.

I have to say it went surprisingly well.

Getting back into the rest of training has been going okay, but I have been holding a special bit of apprehension in my heart about this swim session. It is a session that I have known I need to return to, it is just to beneficial to miss. But as I may or may not have mentioned before, Wednesday morning is hard. The feel of swimming has been returning to normal, but I knew this was going to be a tough session no matter how I sliced it.

And tough it was, but it didn't hurt as much as I expected. I was still shattered by the end (5kms of swimming will do that to you) but not totally destroyed. In the last 1200m piece I was pleasantly surprised that I was still able to attack it a bit, rather than just survive. I am not sure you could say that I attacked it very well, but the intention was there. That has to count for something.

I was a little late to the pool this morning though. All the clocks in my world seem to had issues recently and so the basis for much of the timing of my day is all over the shop. My watch reset itself the other day, which meant I needed to set the time again and it seems I got it slightly wrong. I say reset itself, but I suspect the fact that it is amongst my son's favourite chew toys contributed somewhat. Then we lost power at home and so all the clocks had to be set again as well, which I also seem to have got slightly wrong. So according to my watch I might be slightly late, then according to the clock I might be slightly early. It played havoc with me this morning. I got there in the end though. Just.

Speaking of troublesome electronic devices. Our toaster died yesterday. We got that toaster as a wedding present. Doesn't everyone? That was a bit over 13 years ago, so it has had a good run. Ahhh, the memories. Farewell, my dear toasty buddy.

Hmmmm, probably best to just move on. Since we are still in a build phase of training I have the afternoon off. So that means that with my session for the day done, I am a free man for the rest of the day, which is a nice feeling.

First wind trainer session tomorrow morning, so watch this space for an update on whether I go insane or not.
