Today was the day, the last day of training proper. I am now officially on taper leading into the Busselton Half Ironman.
However, how does that saying go, saving the best for last? Today's final session certainly was a doosy. Not quite as 'put me in a box and bury me' as yesterday, but still pretty solid. It was a running session with a whole bunch of intervals. Scarily enough it was supposed to have more, but Daryl e-mailed me last night to tell me to bring it back a notch. It was a solid session as it was, the orginal version would have been...uncomfortable.
Still some good pace work in there, and a very good pre race session. Really focusing on getting the feet moving fast.
Other than training I had a few other pre race traditions to take care of today. Hair is now cut. The bike has had its clean. I have checked the race wheels and the tyres are holding air. All good to go.
Now I just have an nice easy week of resting and touch up work before race day on Saturday.
At the moment I am feeling pretty good about next Saturday. Local races are so easy, just drive down. If it wasn't for the racing bit, it could almost be holiday. There is so much less stress about the travel so you can just focus on the racing instead. That makes it an easy race to be excited about.
This time I have landed on my feet in terms of accommodation, getting some help from the Break Your Limits guys, so I am staying pretty much next door to transition. That should make it a very easy weekend. Other than for about 4 and a bit hours or so on Saturday morning that is.
I am sure I will be feeling a bit less relaxed in a few days time. But for now it is all good.
Time to start planning my sleep in tomorrow morning.
