Race Weekend

Bleeaach. You know those days you have at work and so many things keep coming up etc that you finally get a point late in the afternoon and you think, 'Well there goes that day'. I had one of those days. Hence why it is 7:15 at night and I am writing this now.

But you know what? I don't have to think about that anymore, because it is now officially the race weekend. Well okay, not actually the weekend yet, but between now and race day there is only packing, travel and race stuff. Nothing else to think about. I am really looking forward to the break truth be told.

Training today consisted of a bit of a swim this morning and a bit of a ride this afternoon. Both sessions went well. The swim program this morning had the magic words, 'Exit point for Busselton Competitors' and two thirds of the way through. Paul somehow managed to write a program that was solid without being hard, whilst still providing a challenge for those people not racing and therefore not getting out early. That is quite an impressive achievement. Since I was one of the ones getting out early I got to enjoy a solid, but cruisy session. A good chance to roll the arms over, pretty much exactly what I was after.

This afternoon it was a bit of a short spin. Tonight's session was a demonstration of just how much good a bit of rest can do. I was doing a few pieces, and they almost felt easy. It certainly felt good. A couple more days of rest and things should be starting to feel pretty okay. After the day I had at work today, the ride this afternoon also served a very important purpose, it gave me some distance and gave me a chance to turn off my work brain and get back into the racing/train groove. It was very welcome.

The rest of tonight is going to be a bit of packing. I am not setting out to be packed tonight, after all I am not really planning on heading down until mid morning tomorrow. But I just plan to get as much packed as I can be bothered packing. However, I do tend to find that once you get going packing happens remarkably quickly. So we shall see how far I get.

Tomorrow the plan is a bit of an easy run, followed by a cruisy morning of packing before heading off. I quite enjoy driving, so I plan on having a good drive down before having a relaxing afternoon settling in. There could be coffe involved.

I had a look online today at where I am staying in Busselton (I didn't organise it so I don't know much about it) and it looks great. I really will be just down the road from transition. I will actually have my own toilet on race morning. For those who don't race, it is hard to explain what that is worth. I could probably rent out my ensuite and cover my entry fee. Being so close should make race morning super easy. It will hopefully make the whole weekend a lot of fun as well, being so close to the action.

Friday will time for putting on the serious racing face, but tomorrow I am planning on relaxing a bit.
