A little bit of a spin this morning. A bit of a recovery from the leg smashing of yesterday. Nice morning to be out again, a little bit of wind, but a lovely temperature for riding. The sort of temperature where you are a little chilly to start with, but then end up perfect for the rest.
The only hiccough occurred when I was just about ready to go and was getting all my bits and pieces together, I couldn't find my work pass. On a day like today I do my training ride on the way to work (it just makes the day easier). Since I leave clothes at work I can usually get away with carrying just my spares (tube etc), and my pass to get into the office when I get to work. All that stuff fits very nicely into my jersey. Only problem was this morning I couldn't find my pass. Damn thing always goes missing.
My morning had been going lovely and smoothly, I was all set to probably even get to work early, but then I had to spend about 20 minutes looking for my pass. Which I still didn't find.
That meant that not only was I at work less early (but still early for me), but I also had to do the Lycra clad walk of shame up to reception to get a visitors pass for the day. The receptionist looked a little shocked, but then again I can't blame them, it was a lot of lycra.
Oh well, I got a temporary pass so it is all sorted now. Plus my wife found my pass at home, so all's well that ends well I guess.
Back to the ride though, as well as nice weather this morning, my ride also included quite a lot of rubbish. A lot of the streets in the area I was riding today must have a hard rubbish pickup coming in the next week or so, since most of them had small mountains of rubbish on their front verges. This meant that as I was riding I got to play one of my favourite games, which I like to call, 'what the hell was that'. It involves looking at all the piles of rubbish as you ride by and trying to figure out what certain things are, or at least had been back before they became rubbish. A few worthy nominations this morning. The area I was riding in, Riverton and Shelley, seems to be a bad area to be if you are either a leaf blower or a printer. Heaps of them on their way to the big rubbish tip in the sky. However, the thing that stood out most for me this morning was a pair of fridge doors. That's got me a bit baffled. What happened to the rest of the fridge? Did just the doors cease to function correctly? What exactly do you do with a fridge with no doors? That one kept me occupied for a while.
In other news, actual news. This apparently happened on Saturday night.
Point Walter Riot
That is right about where I was doing my hill repeats early Sunday morning. Now that I think about it I was wondering why there were police cars around.
Maybe I will wait for daylight next time...
