Another day

Another day, another lovely morning on the bike.

Normally on a Tuesday morning I would be running, however this week is a little unusual since I am on a semi taper/unload leading into the Shoalwater Olympic Distance triathlon that I am doing on Sunday. As a result I was on the bike this morning for a little bit of a spin. Running is on for this afternoon instead.

Since I am not usually out and about on the bike Tuesday morning I don't normally see just how many people are doing the same thing. Just heaps. I noticed the same thing last Thursday when once again I was riding on a morning that I would usually be running. On the peak mornings this town is just packed with cyclists. Great to see.

This afternoon is the next instalment in the saga of me returning to running. Given the taper/unload week thing the run this afternoon is actually shorter than I have been doing. However, this one has a bit of higher intensity stuff in it, which will be an interesting test. The back is feeling pretty good, I daresay it feels more or less normal when I am walking around, so I am hopeful that the run will go okay and that the feeling of normal will continue.

Of course, whilst the run this afternoon will be a bit of a test, the real test for the back (and the fitness) will be the race this weekend. Since I haven't been racing for a while, Daryl and I thought this would be a good chance to blow some cobwebs out pre-Busselton. I am looking forward to it, I am not sure how pretty the run leg will look, but the rest of the legs are feeling good and so I am keen to get out and give them a hit. Plus I have never actually done an Olympic Distance triathlon before, I always seem to be injured or sick or out of town when they are on. So if nothing else this weekend will be a PB.

Leading into the race on the weekend, the P5 got dropped off at Churchill Cycles yesterday for a bit of a check over. Really the check over is in preparation for the Busselton 70.3, but I am also going to have a play with things like stack height and so I am getting them to change that while they are there. I am hoping that the race this weekend will be a good chance to try out some of the changes in a race environment, before getting to a major race day. The P5 has always been a nice and quick bike, but I am hoping some of these changes might make it a little bit quicker again. We shall see.
