ANZAC Day here in Australia today. Some people commemorate ANZAC by heading down to a dawn service, perhaps heading out for a champagne breakfast with some friends afterwards, other people do a 5.5km swim set.
Guess which one I did.
It was funny heading to the pool this morning. Other than the unusually large amount of morning traffic, it was funny to see a bunch of people out and about who obviously aren't used to being up before dawn. There were some surly faces about.
The swim session was a good one. I was surprised how good I felt, given the length of the set. I was tired by the end obviously, but I had imagined I was going to be entirely smashed. I think that is partly because of what we were doing, which was all solid stuff, but nothing insane. It was funny though, at one point we had a series of 400s. I had misread the program and thought we had several sets of 4 x 400m, what Paul refers to as a red mist set. A pretty nasty set for such a long session. However, we had in fact only one set of 4 x 400m. I have never been so relieved to be doing 4 x 400m before. The relief I felt at that seemed to hold for most of the session.
Other than a day spent relaxing with my family (and painting a cubby), my only other activity for the day was a cruisy ride this afternoon. The ride felt really pretty good. On the whole the bike is feeling good at the moment and this ride was indicative of that. In fact the riding is feeling about as good as it ever has, which is a welcome relief, since it hasn't been feeling that good for a while now. I am hoping that the good feelings that I am having on the bike translate to race day next weekend.
A bit of a tough, but short spin in the morning. That is the only session for Saturday. After that I have a tough run on Sunday and then I am on the downhill run into Busso.
