Good solid session this morning, a couple of hours on the bike followed by a walk/run.
The walk/run was a step forward from the one I did on Tuesday. This time I got through all five of my 60 second running pieces. By the end of the fifth one I was sore, but not catastrophically so and the soreness receded very quickly once I stopped, feeling okay again by the end of the session, unlike on Thursday where it took a few hours to calm down. On the fourth running piece it almost felt like my back was starting to calm down a little bit after about 40 seconds. My wife suggested that perhaps I had started to relax at that point and it made me realise that I have been running very tense. It is hard to make yourself stop since you are taking every stride bracing for it to hurt, which in turn seems to make it hurt more. But it is something to work on next walk/run.
It was a definite step forward though and gives me some hope that I am on my way to recovery. I have never been so ridiculously happy to have run so little. But little things.
The ride beforehand went well too. My first session back on the Cervelo P5 since hurting my back. Felt fine. Riding is more and more feeling normal. It was absolutely blowing a gale in Perth today, but for every km into the wind I had to ride I knew I would get to ride the same km with the wind behind me, so that made the headwind sections feel not quite so bad.
With that training is done for the day. The rest of the day is being taken up with a bit of relaxing with the family and keeping an eye on Ironman Melbourne. Looks like it is shaping up to be an interesting race. It is into the tail end of the run for the pro men now, will be interesting to see who can hold it together.
Bin Birk looks like she is having a good day so far.
