Made it

Well here I am in Geelong. I made it here yesterday from Melbourne with only two U-turns, which is pretty good going for me.

Yesterday afternoon was taken up with a bit of settling in, shopping and heading out for a recce ride. I have now seen about two thirds of the bike course. I was keen to get out and see the rest this morning but the remainder is on Portarlington Road, which as I found out yesterday is not a nice place to share with cars. I will head out and see it in the car tomorrow instead.

Rather than seeing the rest of the course this morning I headed out for an easy spin with Bin, Bertram, Joy and Dave Glass and Graeme P, all down from Darwin. It was good to see everyone again and have some familiar faces down here.

The rest of today has been spent resting. I am still trying to shake this cough and to be honest it is starting to mess with my head. I went down to registration this afternoon and just felt like I couldn't breathe. I have 36 hours or so to get that to improve as much as possible. Hence the resting. I have been pretty tired for the last week or so and have had some days where I have just felt like staying in bed all day napping and reading. Today I figured I had no reason not to so that is what I did.

My chest is still feeling tight and nothing I am doing is seeming to shake it, but I will get another good night sleep and see how I am feeling tomorrow.

On the bright side the weather forecast for Sunday seems to have taken a turn for the more pleasant, with the temperature being forecast for around 30 degrees or so. It is still supposed to be super windy, but I am from Perth, so what is a little breeze?

The course looks like it will be an interesting one, quite technical on the ride with a mix of tight winding sections and flat out highway sections. The course is full of rolling hills and a mixture of surface qualities. Throw in the wind and I think it will be a tough course. If the temperature gets near 40 like was forecast at one stage, then the day could be a really tough one, so I am not unhappy that the forecast has changed.

Tomorrow I have an early swim with the Darwin folk and then after that I will head out to see the rest of the bike course in the car. After that there will be a bit more resting before heading down in the afternoon to tuck the bike in. Tomorrow is forecast to be hot with a possible afternoon shower, so I will leave racking until a bit later in the day to try and avoid the heat (and the rain if it comes).

Now time for some stretching.
