I took a bit of a gamble today and for once it paid off. I have been doing some, sort of training, for work for the last couple of days. I say sort of because it is actually fairly fun, if you don't know what a HUET is, look it up. I am thinking of counting it as a swim session.
Anyway back to my point. Often these sorts of training days finish up on the early side. So my gamble today was whether I got up early and went for a ride this morning, or whether I stayed in bed, assuming that we would finish early today, and went riding this afternoon. The sleep in was very very tempting, but in the end I decided to err on the side of caution and got the ride done this morning. Very good call in the end, since I wasn't home from the training until nearly 6:00. So bit of a win there.
The ride went well too. Still coughing, but I think it has improved a bit today. The legs are still feeling a bit flat from Sunday, but once they got going they felt okay. The legs should start to come good over the next couple of days I would expect. So no big problems there. I am feeling a little bit more positive about my cough as well, since I am sure it wasn't quite as bad today. Small improvement, but improvement nonetheless.
I realised this morning that I will have no time to pack on Thursday morning, and that packing tomorrow night will also be a bit tricky. As a result packing for Geelong 70.3 starts now. I am not putting to much pressure on myself to get everything in its place, I don't want or need to be up all night packing. But however much I can get done tonight is a big bonus. So sorting out the bike will begin as soon as I finish this.
I haven't really been giving actual race day at Geelong to much thought yet. I have had some other things to deal with mentally before hand. I started giving it a bit of thought today when I heard that the forecast for race day is nearly 40. I am not sure what I am supposed to do with that particular bit of information though. I sort of feel like I should be getting stressed about it, but doing so won't make it any cooler so I don't think I will bother. Plus the race is still several days away, so the forecast might change a bit one way or another between now and then. I might start getting a bit more concerned about it on Friday. As long as the race organisers account for it though, there isn't a lot I can do about it, I am much better off expending my energy on making sure I am ready for the temperatures, rather than worrying about them.
Time to dismantle a P5.
