Windy Run Day

It required a bit of effort to get myself out the door this morning. It wasn't raining, which was a nice change, but I was tired, feeling comfortable in bed and not really looking forward to the run session on the program. On top of that 50km/h winds were blowing, making the outside world look not all that appealing.

However, after a bit of internal monologue I managed to get myself out the door and moving.

The run I had this morning was a return to the tried and true 'sand running followed by intervals' model. I am staying in the city while here in Darwin, so my nearest beach is Mindil Beach, so it was in that direction I headed. To my surprise I successfully made it to the beach without tripping over any debris blown down by the high winds and without being blown all the way back to Perth.

Once at the beach, the wind made running fairly interesting. I am pretty sure I was being blown sideways at times. Still it wasn't to bad, as hoped, the storms from yesterday meant that the temperature was pleasantly low (for Darwin at least). The intervals after the sand felt okay. My legs were a bit flat from last nights ride, so the intervals felt strong rather than rapid. Still I was happy with how they went. Plus I didn't get rained on.

This afternoon I have run session number two. Like the swim yesterday morning, this afternoon's session will be a return to squad training, this time at the Jingili Water Gardens. My legs are still feeling a little flat, so I suspect this session may hurt a little. But it should be another good opportunity to catch up with some of the Darwin squad. So I am really looking forward to that.

Back on the plane to Perth tomorrow. I am really looking forward to getting back home to the family. Looking at the forecast I should get a couple of days of pleasant weather in Perth, before it returns to blast furnace conditions on the weekend. Hooray?
