No place like home

I went to Darwin Airport this morning, tapped my heels together and said 'there is no place like home' and just like magic I was back home after sitting in a big aluminium tube for a mere four hours.

It is very good to be home. It was really great being up in Darwin and seeing everyone, plus all the little adventures you have up there, like nearly drowning while riding and almost paragliding while running. But I don't do well being away from my family for extended periods and so I am always very happy to get home.
Training wise the only thing I had on the program today was a ride. It is never a good sign when you see people flying kites as you head out on the bike. They are two activities that really don't have much in common when it comes to ideal conditions. As a result the ride today was on the blowy side. Still, compared to what I was seeing in Darwin, it wasn't really that bad. At least it wasn't raining as well. Plus as I headed out on the bike I knew what I was getting myself in for, so it wasn't as if the wind was a surprise. Given all the above the ride really wasn't that bad.

The ride session was a hill repeat session, so I made my way to my usual hills in King's Park. The hill repeats themselves felt good, strong and quick, so that was nice. I wasn't looking forward to the ride home, which was always going to be the headwind bit. But once I accepted that the wind was what it was and to get on with it, I didn't find it quite so frustrating.

Down to the pool tomorrow for what I imagine will the usual Friday morning Swim Smooth Smashfest. Still, after the tough swim session I had up with the Darwin squad on Tuesday, tomorrow's session may not be that bad.

Famous last words...
