Under the couch

I did the equivalent of finding $10 under the couch today. I am not sure why, but I was certain that I was racing at the Geelong 70.3 in a week and a half. I was just starting to get myself mentally ready for packing the bike and travelling over east next week. However, looking at my calender today I realised that of course Geelong isn't for a couple of weeks. I just gained a whole extra week of training that I thought I didn't have. Handy.

Speaking of Geelong, I realised yesterday that it will be my first race in the 35-39 year old age group. I keep on forgetting that I aged up at the end of last year. My birthday is in August and so for me the idea of being 35 is a long way off, I still think of myself as 34. Still it is what it is, I just have to make sure that I remember to start in the correct wave.

On the training front, today has been a running day. I was down at the beach bright and early this morning to get my sand/interval session done. It went pretty smoothly. I had my concerns that it would still be really unpleasantly hot this morning after the hot day we had yesterday. But it cooled down nicely overnight so this morning it was really very pleasant. The running felt okay as well. The sand running was its usual unpleasant self, but the intervals went well.

I have some more intervals this afternoon which will hopefully go as smoothly as this morning. It has been another hot day down here in Perth, but looking at the weather report it looks like the sea breeze has reached the coast and temperatures have started to drop near the beach. Hopefully by the time I get home the temperatures will have continued to drop and it is cool enough to head out running without the risk of melting.

I was chatting to somebody today about how every year, without fail, people complain in Winter about it being cold and that they can't wait for it to warm up, and in Summer they complain about it being hot and that they can't wait for it to cool down. Well cliched or not, I am definitely keen for this hot weather to move on and for it to start cooling down again. I know that some cooler weather will eventually come along pretty definitely, and when it does I am sure I will be amongst the first to complain about how cold it is. But for now I am over this heat and I would gladly welcome some cooler day time temperatures.

Down to the pool in the morning. At least down there it shouldn't matter what temperature it is.
