First up, I have needed to make some edits and corrections to my Albany Race Report. So if you have read it already, have another read, particularly towards the end, where I talk about how the race was run. For those of you who can't be bothered reading the whole thing again, here is the summary.
In the report I said I nearly missed a turn to come back up Mount Clarence and I felt that that corner could have done with more volunteers or something. Apparently that turn was in fact sign posted, but a truck blew the sign over early in the race and by the time it was put back up the first 50 or so competitors had gone through. I think everyone would agree that that is just bad luck rather than bad planning. So I have made that change to the report along with a few other edits. As I said in my race report there were a few little issues like this that came up during the race, nothing major though. Definitely a race worthy of support.
Onto other news, I had my first Mizuno run today. It was only a little run and a pretty light one, but so far the shoes feel pretty good. The run itself didn't feel magic, but I think that is more to do with the race on Saturday than the shoes. The legs are still feeling a little flat, but that happens after races sometimes so I am not losing sleep over it. I am looking forward to getting some more miles in the shoes and getting to know them a bit better.
No more running today though. It isn't on the program anyway, but even it it was I wouldn't be running again today since my left leg has just been hammered. I just went and saw a physio about my niggling left hamstring. I have been managing the hamstring for the last couple of weeks to get me through Albany. It hasn't really been getting in the way of training, and it has been improving, but it has still been causing me twinges. Given that I thought now would be a good time to get it sorted. The phyiso absolutely went to town, including doing some dry needling. I am a big fan of dry needling as a technique, but man it can leave you feeling sore. The good news though is that there is no tear or anything, just tightness. So hopefully it should keep improving, particularly once the current soreness eases off. No need to stop running or anything (other than tonight), so that is good news.
Back to the pool in the morning, hopefully the session doesn't hurt as much as yesterday's did. Speaking of yesterday's swim session. I was looking at my program yesterday afternoon and noticed that according to that I was only supposed to do half of the session. Whoops. Always pays to read these things carefully I guess.
