Cats and Dogs

I successfully got out for a nice ride in Darwin this morning. My plan for this morning was to wait and see whether it was belting with rain or not and if not, go riding. It wasn't raining and so riding I went. At this time of year in Darwin you really can't be sure when it won't be belting with rain next and so you take the opportunities when they arise. Darwin is currently on cyclone watch, so today may be my last rain free opportunity. Looking at the rain radar, there is certainly some serious rain on the way. We will have to wait and see now long it hangs around.

It would be good to get another couple of rain free sessions in, I am currently borrowing Daryl's bike. Taking your coach's bike out into the driving rain isn't up there on the list of smart things to do . Closely following that is crashing your coach's bike, which would be just that little bit more likely if I took it out in the driving rain. So if it is belting with rain tomorrow, I am currently unsure just what I will do. I am hoping I don't have to make the choice, but it isn't looking good.

Riding around Darwin this morning made me realise that I had forgotten just how dark it is here. It is a strange thing to say, but I am coming from Perth Summer and so I haven't ridden in the dark for a couple of months. Plus in Darwin, the dark just seems that little bit darker. My lights were less for being seen and more for simply just seeing.

It was a nice ride though. With this potentially incoming rain, the temperatures here haven't been to killer. Riding this morning was just on the slightly warm side of pleasant.

I am really looking forward to the swim tomorrow morning as well, since it will be one of my best opportunites for catching up with people (there might be some training as well). If it does pour with rain today one up side is that it might cool the pool down a little bit. During the wet season Darwin public pools can sit at 30 degrees or above. It is sort of like trying to swim in a sauna. It is the one thing about tomorrow morning that I am not looking forward to. If it rains it might bring that temperature down a bit. Silver lining perhaps.

Anyway I am off to try and grab some dinner before the air becomes very water logged.
