Officially in race week now. Today was it was time for figuring out nutrition plans, writing down packing lists and figuring out just where the house I booked is located. Usually I would have done those things last week, but with last week being Christmas madness, this was the earliest I could get to it.
I am going to try something a little different in this race nutrition wise. Nothing significant, but I thought I would give Hammer Nutrition Perpetuem a go. I have heard quite a few good things, and the more I have looked into it, the more it seems like a good product. I gave it a go on a training ride a couple of weeks ago and it seemed pretty good. It is a non sweet electrolyte which is exactly what I was after. In fact my first impression was that it had the consistency of very runny baby porridge (guess what my son eats most mornings). Although I should point out that that is a good thing, rather than the disgustingly horrible thing that it sounds like. It feels like it has some substance behind it.
A bit of a taper this week. I wouldn't say it is necessarily full taper, but something close. To that end I was down the pool this morning for a short swim. Was a good little swim, nothing earth shattering, just good solid maintenance with a bit of sighting practise.
For some reason it feels like hay fever has really smacked me in the face this morning. I have suffered from hay fever in the past, sometimes quite badly, but so far this year it has been pretty mild. But this morning I have been sniffing and sneezing like nobodies business. I suspect it is also why I woke up feeling average yesterday morning. I have some anti-histamine at home that should sort it out though. Hopefully it does anyway, because I really am not a fan of feeling like this.
Bit of a ride in the morning. Usually I would take out the training bike for a mid week ride, but circumstances have conspired to make a race bike session possible. So that will be nice.
