Sieve

So sleepy right now. Not sure why, but I could definitely curl up and have a nap. I had some pretty standard post lunch drowsiness, but it is like it never left. Not sure there is enough caffeine in the world for how I am feeling at the moment.

Swimming was pretty okay this morning. One of those sessions where my first impression was that it only went okay, but then when I reflected on the times I was holding etc, I was pretty happy with it. Slow progress is still progress.

This morning I also had a chance to try out my new Finis Agility Paddles, which look a bit like this.

As you can see they have no straps or anything, just a hole for your thumb. The idea being that you need to rely on correct hand positioning through the stroke to keep the paddle on your hand. Swim Smooth coach Paul Newsome recommended that they might be helpful for my stroke so I thought I would try them out.

Like a lot of good technique aids this one works well because it doesn't beat you over the head with improvements, rather they guide you. What I mean by this is that as you use them you might notice them moving around a bit, this leads you to gradually adjust your stroke until they stop moving around. Subtle shifts in technique that lead to improvement. I liked them.

The only downside with the paddles was that for some reason, every time I swam though the 75m mark I was gripped by an irrational fear that I would clip a lane rope or another swimmer and the paddle would break my thumb. Needless to say, that didn't happen. I am not even sure it is possible. Might have to put that one down to what your brain comes up with after prolonged exposure to chlorine and an endless black line.

On to the bike tonight, which will hopefully wake me up a bit. Could be a very interesting ride if it doesn't.

I am sure I had something else to mention, but it has slipped through the sieve I am currently using as a mind. If it was important I am sure it will come to me.
