This morning everything went more or less went to plan and so I ended up riding the furthest I have ever ridden in a single sitting (200km in case you were wondering). It actually was a bit easier than I had expected. I have done a few 150km rides and they have absolutely flattened me, so this morning I was mindful of being pretty conservative on the bike. I had to let people pass me, which I absolutely hate doing, but I knew that if I started off too quick I would regret it in the last bit of the ride. So slow and steady was the call and I think it seemed to work.
Despite the slow and steady approach, the average speed for the session ended up being reasonable, which was good. Plus as I got towards the end of the ride I was surprised that I was still feeling reasonably strong(ish), well at least not as exhausted as I thought I might. So overall I am happy with how the ride went.
The only thing that could have been better was the rain. True to the forecast it rained this morning. Not as much as it is raining right now, more scattered showers rather than the persistent drizzle I can currently see out the window, but enough that you were getting periodically soaked. Unpleasantish. It wasn't horrible, but it was enough to take the shine off the ride. Plus it means I need to go and clean my bike again, which is going to be a little frustrating because the weather is insisting on staying wet.
There was actually a short little run off the bike as well, but since it was so short it wasn't a big ask. It went nicely enough, once again I was happy with how well the body reset from exhausted riding mode into running mode.
Back on the bike in the morning. Hopefully it isn't quite so soggy.
