I had my last training session up in Darwin this morning and it went pretty well. I had a ride on and, as has been the norm on this trip, fitting it in meant a very early start (around 4:00am). Getting myself out of bed was a bit of a challenge, but once I got myself out the door the ride ended up being pretty nice. Once last roll over the empty Darwin streets in the extreme warmth before heading back home to Perth, where it isn't quite so warm.
The session went well, with a bit of speed work, which I managed to achieve all my target speeds on. Plus as a bonus I got to say hello to a few more of the folks from Daryl's squad, which is always very welcome.
All up training up here on this trip has worked pretty well. Last week I was very uncertain as to whether this week would work and whether I would be able to fit in any training at all. But instead I have been really happy with how it has all gone. It is true that I haven't been able to fit in every session, but I am pretty happy with the stuff I have managed to get done. I have squeezed in enough to feel that the week wasn't a waste. A big thanks to Daryl for letting me use his bike this week. Without the bike this week would have been quite different.
Now that this trip is nearly over though I am very keen to get back to Perth tomorrow and get on with training. I should be able to get a pretty unbroken run of training in between now and Busselton, that is the plan anyway.
In other news, it looks like the cycling stuff that I had left up in Bintan might have shown up. Certainly they have found some cycling gear that fits the description I gave and are sending it to me. From the description they gave me, it sounds like a couple of items of clothing may still be missing, which is a bit annoying, but at the same time recovering some is certainly better than recovering nothing at all. All it has to do now is turn up, so hopefully that bit goes smoothly as well.
