Really that is enough

Okay this wind has officially outstayed its welcome. I am over it. It has been blowing a gale here for the last 3 days straight and I am sick of it. Unfortunately I am not sure it is paying any attention to me.

Run day today. Run day looks a little bit different now that I am training for Mandurah rather than Metaman. No more cross country, instead the sessions are a lot more speed orientated.

This morning I was out for some sustained effort long intervals and this afternoon it was time for some more typical short intervals. Both sessions went okay. I have been surprised how much I am enjoying the long interval morning sessions. On paper it looks pretty painful, and the session certainly isn't all scones and cream, but I am kind of enjoying it. Today I enjoyed it more than the shorter, sharper afternoon interval session. Of course I would have enjoyed both runs a lot more if half of each wasn't spent flogging into a massive headwind. Yes flying downwind is a lot of fun, but I really don't find it worth the effort of having to fight the headwind in the first place.

Today was the first time I have backed up the longer interval morning session with the shorter interval afternoon session. The morning session is less miles than I used to do when doing my cross country loop pre Bintan. But it certainly is more intense. You might think that the shorter morning session would make the afternoon session easier, at least that is sort of what I was expecting. It would seem not though. The additional intensity of the session this morning meant that I was carrying a fair bit of fatigue when it came to this afternoon's session. I still hit all my target times etc, but it was harder than I was expecting. Whether it is harder than doing the same short interval session after my old cross country loops, I am not sure, it certainly didn't seem any easier.

Today I got a good dose of one of the more unpleasant aspects of running. As you may or may not be aware, running tends to mobilise the bowel. What this means is sometimes when you run you can find yourself needing to find a toilet, sometimes pretty urgently. I had one of those days today. I was about half way through my intervals, and I thought, 'maybe I should take a detour and head to that public toilet which I know is just down the road'. 'Nah' I thought, 'I should be right'. Man that was the wrong call. I got through the rest of my intervals, but when I went to start my warm down, my body told me in no uncertain terms 'you will walk, not run, but walk, to the nearest toilet, and you will do it right now, otherwise things are going to get very unpleasant for everyone.' I made the toilet, but by the time I did, boy oh boy, my clenches had clenches. I was at the point of scoping out likely bushes. Not very fun. That certainly contributed to my less than super fun afternoon session.

Oh yeah I did get out on the bike last night as well. It was about as expected. The winds certainly were better than they would have been if I had headed out yesterday morning. But they were still pretty vicious. Given the circumstances the ride wasn't bad. But still, the best thing about it was finishing it.

Swimming tomorrow morning, and this damn wind can blow as much as it pleases, because in the pool I won't be caring. As long as it stops blowing by tomorrow afternoon though when I am back on the bike.
