What do you call thousands of people sitting in one place getting ridden past by a cyclist.
The freeway in peak hour.
Suckers.
The ride tonight was nice enough. I stuffed it up a little bit though. I misread the winds and so ended up leaving my intervals until I was riding back into the headwind. The effort was there, but the speed certainly wasn't. Very frustrating. I didn't get rained on though and the temperature and everything else was quite pleasant. All up it was a pretty nice ride.
The swim this morning ended up being okay as well, although it didn't start that way. Last Wednesday, the coach at Swim Smooth, Paul, felt it was time that I swam with the next group up in terms of speed. That happened today and man I got crushed. We were doing 800s and on the first one I got completely back doored, to the point where I was very much questioning whether I should be swimming with the quicker group. But Paul in his wisdom insisted that I persist and it was a good call. I never really kept up, but swimming with those guys meant I was certainly swimming quicker than I otherwise would have been. My time for the third 800 was quite a surprise to me. Unfortunately on the last 800, which was supposed to be the quickest, I exploded fairly unimpressively. Given that the last 800 was supposed to be the quickest, I went out fast employing a sort of do or die approach. I short, I didn't. But even with a fairly dramatic fade away I ended up doing a time that at any other time I would have been pretty happy with. I am hoping I can keep swimming with these guys in future. They are crazy fast, but what doesn't kill you.
Nice easy day tomorrow, hooray.
