Not quite go time

I had another good swim this morning. Demanding as is typical for a Friday, but it felt good and the results were good too, which is always a bonus. The only downside to the swim was that there was a slightly unpleasant smell wafting over the pool, a bit on on the seweragy side if I had to put a name to it. I have a 6 month old son who is currently starting to eat solids, so I consider myself a bit of an expert on odours of this nature, and I would have to say it was definitely down that end of the olfactory range. I am not sure what the source was or whether anyone else noticed it, but I am pretty sure it wasn't my imagination. Slightly off putting.

A bit of a spin on the bike is on the cards for this afternoon. So far the weather in August has been making up for the glorious riding weather that we had in June. August has been persistently rainy and windy and so far today hasn't been too much of an exception to that. I think the plan is for it to clear (that is certainly my plan anyway, but I am not sure if anyone is listening) and looking at the lovely blue skies that we currently have I am hoping that is what we get. We shall see, whether it is rainy or not though, I think the wind is here to stay for the rest of the day, but you can't have everything.

Over the last couple of days, the race up in Bintan has started to become very real. I just rang Churchill Cycles to make sure I am okay to swing the P5 past for a check up. I just recieved my program for my first lighter week. All things pointing towards the fact that a race is coming. To be honest I am not particularly nervous about the race. Not yet anyway, that usually doesn't hit until right before the race. At this stage I am simply excited about the race because I feel like I am training well and because it is a new race for me. For me what I am currently nervous about is all the prep work that is necessary before we head to the airport. All the 'what do we need, have we forgotten anything' type considerations. Next week it will be time to put together the packing list and the race/fuel plan. That will help settle some of those concerns, but it is also usually when the reality of the race really kicks in.
