7 Letters. Starting with P

Almost there, the end of the week is nearly within reach. I have survived what has been a tough week of training and I am pretty happy with how it has gone. I still have a weekend worth of training ahead of me, but that sort of takes care of itself. Besides 'training' tomorrow morning is several hours of bombing along on a Ceverlo P5. Some people might not call that training, some might just call it fun.

The remaining session for the day (and the working week) is a bit of a spin on the bike. This has to be about my favourite session of the week. It isn't that long, it isn't that intense, just go out and ride for a while. Just ride. From where I am sitting at the moment I can see a broad sky of blue. The winds are on the light side, the temperature is about 18 degrees. Dare I say it... perfect. It is one of those sessions that even if it wasn't on the program you might consider doing anyway.

Some Friday's, when the wind is howling and the rain is driving, I don't feel quite so keen on this session. But today isn't that day. It is a great session for disconnecting from work, putting that away for the week and moving into weekend mode. Some Friday's I start the ride with the day's going ons from work bouncing around in my head, by the end of the ride, my mind is nearly always clear. It is like a big relaxing exhalation. But with pedals. And Lycra.

At the other end of today, it was a good tough swim this morning. It was a sneaky kind of tough, it didn't look that bad on the pool deck white board, but it sort of caught you by surprise. Like a bed full of echidnas. Looks like it should be pretty comfy, but once you get into it, it is actually pretty painful. It had some solid rapid 100s, but then some proper flat out sprint efforts to finish with. Sting in the tail sort of thing, if scorpions injected lactic acid rather than venom. Like all these sessions though, it was good.

Since I started attending the Wednesday morning swim session at Claremont pool, my weekly swimming mileage has taken a jump up. I think I am starting to see some rewards from that. Early days yet, but this week we had some efforts etc in the pool where I surprised myself. Fingers crossed it continues.

Now, I think it might be time for a ride.
