Today was the third time I have attended the Swim Smooth Wednesday morning session, and I think, just maybe, my body is starting to get the hang of it. The Wednesday morning swim is a long session, typically around a 5km set. It usually isn't intense, but you don't have to be swimming that hard to end up tired at the end of 5km. The first time I went, it was just a case of make the distance. Last week wasn't to bad, but I was able to draft a lot which made it easier. This week, there wasn't to much drafting and it was a solid session, but at the finish, whilst tired, I was still feeling reasonably strong. I am hoping that is a good sign. Might wait until after next week to get my hopes up though.
We have a big training exercise at work today and tomorrow. Being a training exercise, food is provided. I am looking forward to gorging myself on chicken and brie sandwiches, mini sausage rolls and all manner of unhealthy goodness. I am planning on eating enough that by the end of it I will resemble some kind of chicken and brie sausage roll hybrid. I know I really shouldn't be talking about eating high fat, tasty goodness, but I don't get to indulge very often and with the amount of training that gets done, I think I can get away with it now and then. Having said that I think I might eat some token fruit as wel,l just to appease the guilt.
On to the bike for a return to King's Park for more hill repeats this afternoon. It was belting with rain last night and there was the possibility of more rain forecast for today. Hopefully not. It looks pretty clear at the moment and it would be nice if that held up.
This morning on the ride in from the pool, I rode with my arms uncovered for the first time in what must be ages. The weather has been cold enough in Perth for the last month or so that arm warmers have been pretty much mandatory. However, this morning I must have still been pretty warm from the swim, plus with the rain from last night, it just wasn't that cold out. It was strange, it has been such a long time since I have ridden with bare arms that I found I had actually forgotten what it felt like to have wind passing over my arms. It is funny the little things that you notice some times.
