Temptation thy name is timtam

As you may or may not remember I was involved in a training exercise at work last week. As part of that training exercise the organisers ordered a bunch of food for everyone. Including, as snack food, a box of 150 timtams. Turns out though that the box didn't get opened and it is now sitting about 3m from my desk.

What does 150 timtams look like - about twice as many as this
I have a fairly massive sweet tooth, and so it is taking a lot of will power to not be ploughing into that box. I have to admit I am not fighting the temptation all that hard. I have just been running, that is my justification for the timtam wrappers in my bin.

On the running front, it was a fairly standard double run day today. My long cross country Tuesday morning run felt pretty good this week. The overall enjoyability of that run can vary quite a bit depending on the tide. The lower the tide, the more beach I have to run on and the more enjoyable the run is. Today's tide was just about right and it made for a pretty enjoyable run. I managed a bit better speed on the both the sand and the hills than I have on the previous few attempts, which I am pretty happy with.

Now moving on to everyone's favourite Tuesday segment...

Cross Country Stack

For those unfamiliar with the concept of Cross Country Stack, it is a segment where I describe how I stacked it while running cross country in the dark today. To recap for those playing at home, in previous editions of Cross Country Stack I have:
  • Tried to jump a creek and fallen on my face.
  • Rolled my ankle on a rock.
  • Tripped over some seaweed and fallen on my face.
So what new and inventive way did I try and hurt myself this morning you ask. Drum roll please...

I ran into a fence.

Now I am not talking bumped into a fence a bit. Sort of sideswiped in a clumsy way. Oh no

I   Ran    Into    A    Fence.

Straight into it. Damn near flipped myself right over it. Luckily I was warming down so I wasn't moving too fast, but I was still running. I blame the dark, and some shifting shadows and anything else that comes to mind. The annoying thing is that it isn't as if it was a new bit of path or anything. I run this section every week. I have never managed to run into a fence before. I came away pretty unscathed, other than my ego. Luckily it was still quite dark (possibly part of the problem) so I am fairly sure nobody saw.

This afternoon it was time for the standard double run encore. Intervals. I really struggled to get myself out the door this afternoon, suffering from an acute case of Idon'twannaitis. In the end I employed the age old art of telling myself to shut up, stop thinking about it and just go. That did the trick. My legs were feeling pretty flat on the warm up, but once I got going the session ended up being okay. The last three intervals were the quickest, for me that is always an indication that I got the pacing about right. The times were not too bad, given the tough run this morning.

Now, feeling a little bit hungry. If only I had a big box of extremely sweet biscuits nearby...
