Flat Hills

Back on the bike again this morning. This time it was back to King's Park for some more hill repeats. Unfortunately the flatness I felt on the hills was in my legs, rather than in the hills themselves. The hills felt just as steep and just as long as usual.

The Hill - just as long and steep as ever
I guess the trade off of doing my long weekend ride yesterday was that this morning on the bike I was feeling it. I wasn't feeling to bad, really just lacking that top gear necessary to make it a quick ride. Fatigue had taken the edge off. I quickly gave up on timing my hill repeats, which I would normally do, and just focused on effort instead. I was certainly still working hard, but just not getting up the hill as quick as normal.

Oh well, you can't feel great all the time and not every session can be epic. I think these sessions are the ones where it is important to persevere, keeping the focus on quality, even if some of the speed isn't there. No need for it to be written off as a wasted session.

This morning there was an interesting addition to my usual hill repeat route. A burned out ute. That sort of thing is quite an usual sight in King's Park. I am not sure if it is perhaps a new garden feature. Maybe a comment on the inherently destructive nature of humanity in a world of beauty. It could be a public service warning about the dangers of smoking...while carrying petrol. Or perhaps it is just a burned out ute.

New garden feature?

Oh well, whatever the reason, it gave me something interesting to look at as I rode past it over and over again.
