Sandy again

It can be hard to get out of bed for a long run in the morning. When it is raining, that can become just a little bit harder. That was the case this morning. I woke up to a real true winter morning, cold, wet, the whole bit. I got myself out the door, but it wasn't all that easy.

I have had to adjust to the fact that in Perth running in the rain is unpleasant. In Darwin a good rain shower is often the best time to run, since it drives the temperature down. Within reason of course, running in a cyclone is never recommended. That isn't the case here. Here the rain is cold and can make the whole thing a bit miserable. Luckily it didn't rain the entire run and when it did rain it ended up being pretty light. So all up I am glad I went to the effort getting up.

It was a return to the same cross country course as last week for my long run this morning. Like last week it worked pretty well, except that a higher tide meant that I had to change which section of the river I used for my beach running. During my first exploratory run along the new section of beach I came across a drainage ditch that cut off the beach. It was just on the borderline of what I thought I could jump. Give it a go I thought. It didn't end well. I didn't get to wet, but I did end up getting sand everywhere. Once I got home I was surprised to see just how sandy I was. After all that I only got another 30m or so of sand before I was blocked by a fence. Needless to say I turned around at the drainage ditch for the other sections of beach running after that.

Since I went for a run last night with teh folk from Stadium Tri Club I am on to the bike tonight for some hill repeats, so it will be back to King's Park for me. It looks like the weather has dried up a bit, so whilst it might be chilly and dark, at least it won't be raining (hopefully).

The run session with Stadium Tri Club last night went well. There are certainly some talented guys there, guys who will push me I think. I am still not sure which way I am going to go in terms of new clubs, but it was worth going down and seeing. I have another session with them tomorrow morning, so we will see if the good impression continues.
