Panic Stations

Nice ride this morning, surrounded on both sides by self inflicted panic. I was having a very nice cruisy morning getting ready for a ride this morning, reading some summaries of the Tour etc, really taking my time. Just about ready to go when I thought I would check my calender for the rest of my day on the phone. Ahhh crap an early meeting I had forgotten about. Quick out the door go go go. Early meetings on a Monday, really who does that?

Some simple maths later I realised that if I tried to do the full ride it would make getting to  the meeting on time pretty tight. 'I know I will just ride to work and then do the ride tonight'. Ahhhh, relax, that will work well. Several kms later, ahhhh crap I have a physio appointment tonight which means I won't be able to leave early enough to get my ride done. Back to panicking.

In the end I compromised, I did my ride this morning, but cut it five minutes short to give myself enough time to get to the meeting. I justified cutting it short by telling myself I have to ride 40 minutes to get home tonight anyway. Once I was at work I rushed up to the meeting, pretty much bang on time to find... An empty meeting room, 'oh they haven't started yet, they will give you a call when they get to your bit'. A call which came about an hour later. Groan.

Still the ride was very pleasant, close to freezing, but I just put on pretty much every item of warm cycling clothing that I own, so it wasn't to bad. It was a shortish ride but it included some hill repeats in King's Park, which is always pretty pleasant in the morning.

Just a ride home on the cards for the rest of the day. I might take that ride a little easier though.
