| Ewwwww |
Tell you what, the temptation to crawl back into bed was a strong one. But the ride had to get done sometime, and the morning was going to be the best fit. Plus I had no guarantee that the weather was going to be any better tonight. So morning ride it was. Needless to say the P5 was put away.
As I was getting ready I was umming and ahhing about whether to go the full gloves or not. However, I had washed my fingerless gloves after training yesterday to prevent the onset of mankiness, and when I checked this morning I found that they were still wet. Decision made, full gloves it was.
After donning all my warm gear, I got out the front door and was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't actually raining at that particular moment in time. That always makes starting easier. I also realised that I had forgotten my gloves. I briefly considered going without, since I was already running late. It was a very brief consideration.
Out on the ride and whilst the roads where wet, the rain was holding off. I got half way and turned for home with still no rain. I was just starting to entertain the thought that maybe I would manage to not get rained on when I saw The Cloud. You know when you spot those big grey clouds that look like they are brimming with rain and are coming your way. It was one of those clouds. In the case of this cloud I also happened to be riding towards it.
The second half of the ride quickly became a race against The Cloud to see how close I could get to home before it caught me. It also became a bit of a count down, along the lines of, 'Well the worst that can happen is that I get caught in the rain for 15 minutes, 14 minutes, 13 minutes etc'. It went pretty well, but in the end The Cloud won, as it usually does.
How close did I get, four and a half minutes from home. Close enough to be nearly there, not quite close enough to be dry.
