Ride home from work last night was an interesting experience. Once again I managed to avoid getting rained on in any significant way, but the wind was staggering. I don't mean that metaphorically, it really was staggering. I had a side wind for the ride along beside the freeway and it must have looked like I was drunk, I was all over the place. There were a couple of spots where I really thought it might blow me off. Was glad to get home. It was a real struggle getting myself out the door again to head to the pool.
I had spent the day thinking I might be nursing the beginning of a cold. That combined with the weather (not to mention my kids and wife) made staying at home last night a very attractive option. However, before I left work I had checked my resting heart rate and it had been about normal. No cold for you my friend and no excuses (except of course the kids and wife, which is the best excuse - mainly because it is legitimate). But I am glad I went, as usual Swim Smooth put on a great session. There were slightly depleated numbers since a lot of people were away getting ready for the Busso 70.3 tomorrow. But the session was still very good. Between Anzac Day and swimming in the river last week, I haven't been to a Thursday afternoon session for a few weeks. Thursday afternoon is a bit of a threshold session, which means pushing your limits. Hard work, but a bunch of fun. A lot of the session is done using what they call a wetronome. It is a little timer that you put under you cap and it beeps at you. You set it for a certain pace, ie you can set it to beep every 30 seconds, then you make sure you are at the 25m mark when it beeps, keep that up for a 2 minute 100. Once you have it set you work to that pace. You base the timing on a given 100m pace. Pretty straight forward when you are swimming 100s, becomes more difficult when you are swimming 200s, or 300s. You get the idea. I love it.
Busselton 70.3 tomorrow. There is a bunch of people coming down from Darwin. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it down there to cheer them on, but hopefully they have a great race. If the weather comes to the party I think there could be a number of PBs done. Here is the forecast for Busselton.

| Could be okay |
From the look of the forecast it hopefully won't be to bad. I think everyone is nervous about the swim. But with the winds that are forecast, I think it might be alright. Fingers crossed. Good luck to Big Russ, Berky, Ian, Mark, Ashan and Phil. There is serious bragging rights on the line between Berky, Ian and Mark, so the race will be on for those guys.
I have other big exciting news, but it won't be ready until Monday at the earliest, so I will hold off until then for photos etc. But a bit of a hint, it rhymes with Pervelo C5...
